Parent Comment: I wanted to thank each and everyone of you at the Vedanta Academy for making such a positive impact in my child\'s heart and mind. We joined your family in January of 2008 and we have loved every minute of it, you are all so friendly and helpful, thank you to everyone, see you on the 26th.


Vedanta Academy Family Fun Day, June 26th, at Ben Lee Park. Games, Food, Beverages, Report Cards handed out, Yearbooks handed out. 11:00 a.m. until three with more fun and fellowship than you can stand.


The 2008 Vedanta Academy Yearbook arrives the week of June 16-20. If your family would like more then the one copy purchased at registration or if you are a relative or alumnus and would like a copy, please see Administrator Kim Simpson as soon as possible. Supplies are very limited.


We wish to honour and congratulate the 2008 Vedanta Academy Graduation Class. They looked wonderful at ceremonies June 7th at Manteo Resort. Two of our seven grads have received bursaries for studies at post secondary schools of choice in addition to Passport to Education funding. We are planning an Arts and Culture trip to Cuba in the Spring of 2009. Students get an unparalleled opportunity to see inner Cuba and interact with Cuban students as well as receive instruction in Cuban Arts and Cultural such as dance and drumming. The trip will be a week long with all students needs met including guides, transportation, food and accommodation for one package price. The Vedanta end of year performances The Jungle Book and Grease are on the evening of June 10th at the Kelowna Community Theatre. Parents, remember that students will be at the theatre in practice all day June 9th and again June 10th. Please ensure students are prepared for the rehearsals and performance and are dropped off and picked up at the theatre both days.


Parents interested in the optional MacBook Program for their child are welcome to get involved. We have opened the program to all grades. For $72.00 per month your child gets a 2.0 Ghz MacBook Laptop with a 3 year equipment warranty, 3 year software upgrade, 3 year year operating system upgrade package, 3 year support program, insurance and additional software as needed for classes. After the 3 year lease yo may buy the unit out for $100.00 and it will have the latest of everything on it. The units are with students 24/7 and when at school are governed by Censornet and school rules. Tickets for the Vedanta Graduation Ceremonies, Dinner and Dance June Saturday, 7that Manteo Beach Resort are available at the Office for $50.00. Please get them soon to avoid disappointment. The tickets are available at the Office now.


The Vedanta Environmental Mind Grind Team won their place in the regional finals and were voted most enthusiastic team May 3rd at UBCO during the regional play downs. Our team fished second in the City's in April and moved to the Regional's. Great work Garnet Tanner, Preetpal Grewal, Larkin Warren and Mandy Belliveau. Thank you Ms. Drought, Ms. Buchanan and Ms. Harquail


The Middle school students raised $1,245.00 for world hunger relief April 25th and 26th, staying at school all day Friday and overnight in the gymnasium living only on small amounts of rice in a 30 Hour Famine. Students and teachers kept busy with games and contests before wrapping up the famine with a Saturday morning breakfast.


Welcome to four new Vedanta teachers, Andrea Weagant, Morgan White, Crystal Lawrie and Lynn Wiswell. They join the Special Education Department working in a variety of areas of the school and classrooms.


Construction to repair our portable is underway and will be very extensive, so it seems Grade 5 will remain in their temporary classroom until June. Thanks to everyone who has helped from the time of the fire until now. We can't wait to move back in.


Police have arrested suspects in the recent break-in at Vedanta Academy and the suspects are being scheduled for court in the near future. None of the stolen items have been recovered though. Thank you to parents and friends of Vedanta who stepped forward with offers of loaner equipment. Hopefully the issue will be resolved successfully.


Please welcome Lee Karvonen to vedanta Academy. Lee has many years of teaching experience in the Humanities and a variety of arts/music courses. Lee will be taking over part of the senior Humanities Program along with Pam Coleridge, (already on staff) as Mrs. Trites moves to her Principal duties

We would like to announce several promotions at Vedanta Academy. Cindy Belliveau has been promoted to Director of Instruction and Director of Special Education. Cadence Trites has been promoted to Principal. Karlisa Hiebert is Vice Principal and Leha Ward has been promoted to a Co-Administrator and Krista Braeuer is now in the main office. Congratulations to all and welcome Krista


The Holiday Performance at the Kelowna Community Theatre, is Monday, December 17th at 7:00 p.m. Students will be practicing Sunday, December 16th at 5:30 p.m. as well as during the day of Monday the 17th. Students are to be dropped off and picked up at the Community Theatre by parents or guardians on those days. There are several notices going home on the times and expectations. Parents and family members attending, please be at the KCT at 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening. The doors to the theatre seats open at 6:30 p.m..The lobby opens at 6:00 p.m.


Early Saturday morning, December 8, 2007, we experienced an arson fire on the Vedanta Academy site. It was started on a wooden stairway to the Grade 5 portable and spread to the portable unit itself. We have moved the Grade 5 class to another area of the school and it is class time as usual. At this point damage estimates and ETA to using the portable again are not known. Thank you to the staff who volunteered time over the weekend to help with classroom movement and thank you to parents who called and emailed offering help. A special THANK YOU to the Kelowna Firefighters who helped staff moved a very heavy Kokanee in Classroom fish tank to the main building from the portable.

Ms. Bocking's Grade 5 Class has won the Pizza Party for selling the most Entertainment Books. They sold $390.00 worth. The fund raising project raised almost $500.00 net, for technologies at Vedanta Academy.

Another order for the Apple One-2-One program for MacBooks will be made during Holiday Break. Interested parents call Mike Guzzi at 868-8816 to get details on setting up a lease for a brand new MacBook for your child Grade 6 and above. Leases are $72.00 per month including MacBook, 3 year equipment warranty, 3 years of Operating System updates, 3 Years of Software updates,insurance and all taxes included. There is a $100.00 buyout at the end to keep the unit after it is fully upgraded. Students have the units 24/7 and they operate them as they would their own home computer systems. Fully wireless Internet capable as well as Blue tooth capable with cameras and microphones built in.

Ministry of Education transcripts are in for our 2007 Graduating Class and from the 19 Grads, 65% have received Honours Certificates from the Ministry. Congratulations all!

Vedanta Academy enrolment is ballooning in the middle school grades currently and we encourage those interested in middle school and high school, especially, to get registration packages completed and in as soon as possible. Students from Grade 4 to 7 have now completed Oral Reading Fluency Testing to measure improvement from September using the active reading and learning strategies of Vedanta Academy. The results are very promising with averages increases from 8 to 29 percent. Those are averages with some students showing remarkable progress. Students are tested by reading aloud with accuracy using words from their expected grade level, Parents can talk to their teachers about Oral Reading Fluency and San Diego Testing
