Vedanta Academy Dress Code
Information on Dress Code
Vedanta Academy Office
Vedanta
Academy believes that standards of neatness and appropriateness
in clothing encourage self worth and self esteem as
well as promoting an environment conducive to learning
and achievement. Calling attention to oneself through
inappropriate dress is not acceptable. At Vedanta
Academy neatness and cleanliness are important to
individuals and the school population as a whole.
Students
abiding by the dress code will have their body and
undergarments covered from shoulders to mid thigh.
Tank tops, tube tops, spaghetti straps, short shorts or mini
skirts are examples of items not allowed.
General
examples of inappropriate dress include but are not
limited to; bare midriffs, spaghetti straps, exposed under garments
of any kind, torn clothing, clothing that includes
slogans and/or insignias or advertising which promote
alcohol, drugs, violence hate or inappropriate world
views or secular positions.
Headgear
(hats, toques, caps etc.) and outside coats are to
be left in lockers or on cloakroom hangers while inside
the school or in the classrooms, other than for religious
purposes. That includes the hallways.
Each
student from Grade 5 - 10 is to have appropriately
logo 'd gym strip including shorts and t-shirt for
all PE classes and school sports events. Grade 11
and 12 students will also comply with gym strip policy
if taking PE or competing in school sports events.
The gym strip is determined by administration each
school year.
Footwear
MUST be worn at all times inside and outside the school
for health and safety reasons. Outdoor footwear such
as heavy winter boots are not to be worn in the classroom, students are to change into an inside shoe. Footwear
is a personal choice however we encourage comfortable
and non scuffing shoes or runners.
For
PE or other physical programs students must wear an
athletic designed, non scuffing running shoe approved
by their instructors.
Piercing
is really a student/parent issue and reasonable piercing's
that are not affecting safety in a class or the school
are allowed with parental consent. Should a teacher,
supervisor or advisor decide that a piercing is a
safety issue, they might have to be removed or covered.
Should
there be issues with dress, students may be given
an alternate item of clothing to wear for the day
by their teacher. Ongoing issues will be discussed
with students and parents.
